Conferences do not need to be serious affairs as proved this weekend by the Mediterranean Conference Centre, HCCE’s unique event venue on the Island of Malta. Hosting the Malta Comic Con (MCC), fun, action and costumes were the order of the day.

MCC started nine years ago and was first held at St James Cavalier, until popularity meant it needed a larger site and it moved to the Mediterranean Conference Centre. The event has a friendly atmosphere and is popular with families, attracting attendees of all ages.

Early estimates indicate that over 2000 people attended the event over the weekend to celebrate their love of comic books, films, video games, cosplaying and much more. An eclectic mixture of writers and artists set up stalls, some established stars and others making their first appearance. There was also an international feel with artists coming from the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Ireland, France and the USA, as well as there also being plenty of local Maltese talent.

Guests this year included Malta born actress Marama Corlett, currently playing the lead in SyFy's series Blood Drive. Comic-Strip artist, William Simpson, known for his work on such iconic figures as Batman and Transformers was also present, showing samples of his work and taking part in some live sketching.

With an exciting program of question and answer sessions, workshops, quizzes, gaming demonstrations and talks, the weekend at this unique meeting venue was lively and full of fun for all attendees both young and old.
