Brexit negotiations further intensify concerns about deficits, with reduced migration likely to cause a further shortfall in the workforce, but few hospitality businesses are appearing to be preparing for it.

There is plenty of reason for optimism in the meetings and event industry, according to the 2018 Global Meetings and Events Forecast from American Express Meetings & Events. They believe that growth prospects are good thanks to robust investments and increased competition in the supply chain. The expectation is that 2018 is likely to head in a more positive direction than this year.

When organising corporate travel policies and programs, a persistent problem is balancing the needs of the business with the needs of the traveller. Traditionally the business gains favour, with the traveller urged towards the cheaper option, rather than the one best for them. But according to the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE), the balance is now shifting as business travel managers are making their policies more traveller considerate.

While travel is mostly safe, recent events of environmental disasters and terror attacks highlight that safety can never be taken for granted. Firms have a responsibility to those travelling on business. But recent UK results from the Duty of Care Survey carried out by Concur, an employee-spend management and business travel company, suggest that many companies are failing in this.
